Lake Keepit State Park offers fun and relaxation for the whole family with BBQs, picnics and bushwalking along the Namoi, or water sports on the 34km of stunning waterways. The park is great for bushwalks, with many pleasant and easy trails. Go gliding, lessons are available, or bring a BMX bike and try out the track. Roller bladers, roller skaters and skateboarders can have fun in the skate bowl. Lake Keepit State Park is famous for its fishing. Hook silver and golden perch (yellow belly), Murray cod and catfish. Activities
Tamworth, 50 minutes drive to the east, being the country music capital of Australia, has the Country Music Hall of Fame, and hosts the Tamworth Country Music Festival each January. Gunnedah, 30 minutes drive to the west, hosts the AgQuip Rural Field Days every August. Manilla, 20 minutes drive to the north has a meadery and is a pleasant day trip. Flora and fauna
For the nature lover, there are many native plants and trees, and some 170 species of birds inhabit the area. Lake Keepit boasts the Australian King Parrot, the hakea plant and Apostle birds, just to name a few.
Location
Address: Lake Keepit is a half-day's drive from Sydney or Newcastle or half an hour from Tamworth. The Entrance to Lake Keepit State Park is just off the Oxley Highway (about 7kms). It is situated 38kms east of Gunnedah and 54kms west of Tamworth or 30kms south of Manilla by all weather bitumen road. Nearest regional centre is Tamworth.
Directions
From Tamworth, follow the signs to Gunnedah and after 56kms along the Oxley Highway, turn right into Lake Keepit State Park. Transport: There is no public transport to this park. Park map download (PDF 235.5KB)
